Fritz Gerold
A Visionary Leader and Resilient Spirit
In the heart of Keitel, the second son of master butcher Berhard Gerold and his wife, Lina, was born into a world that would become his canvas for creativity and determination. Fritz Gerold’s journey began in the humble corridors of elementary school, but his thirst for knowledge led him to the trade school in Sonnenberg. It was there he honed his skills and embarked on a path that would define the legacy of Gerold Porzellan.
After completing his commercial apprenticeship in the wire weaving school of Paschold in Gräfenthal, Fritz Gerold ventured into the bustling world of commerce in Hamburg, expanding his horizons at the esteemed company Pachold & Trautschold. Both tragedy and opportunity marked his return to the New Porzellan Factory. Following his father’s demise in 1922, Fritz assumed the mantle of leadership with youthful vigor and unyielding determination despite the company's severe crisis.
Amid personal milestones, including marriage to Maria Müller and the joy of raising five sons, Fritz Gerold faced profound challenges. The loss of his second-eldest son, Werner, in 1943 cast a shadow over the family. Despite the turmoil of World War II, Fritz Gerold’s resilient spirit guided the company through provisional lines and post-war uncertainties, rebuilding the business and rekindling connections with overseas patrons.
Tragedy struck again in 1965 when Fritz’s son, Fritz Jr., was involved in a tragic road accident, leaving the family shattered. Undeterred by personal adversity, Fritz Gerold underwent a serious operation in 1967 emerging stronger and more dedicated than ever before. However, the loss of his mother in the same year weighed heavily on his heart.
As he approached his 65th birthday. Fritz Gerold’s community recognized his unwavering dedication and planned to honor him as a Freeman. Sadly, fate intervened, and Fritz passed away in May 1968. Despite his untimely departure, his legacy lived on, and he was posthumously awarded an honorary citizen title. Today, the grandeur of the modern factory stands as a testament to his vision and the indomitable spirit that once guided Gerold Porzellan.
This chapter is a tribute to Fritz Gerold, a visionary leader whose resilience and determination shaped Gerold Porzellan’s enduring legacy.
